A web site that will host podcasts for free
I was doing a project that needed to have a home for my audio/visual file. I googled and found PodBean. I am still learning all the processes to do through on the site, but it is free.
I hope this will help!

My website
In case you are wondering I ditched the website I first made in class. Since then I have been working on my real site. Please take a look and let me know what you think. Lots of it will not be updated until school gets started, but you get the idea as to how I use it anyway.

Great conferences and more grants!
Each year there are a couple of great conferences scheduled in North Carolina where you can hear other area teachers just like yourselves sharing their experiences about using technology in teaching and learning. If you have the opportunity I would strongly encourage you to attend.
- North Carolina Educational Technology Conference - typically held the week after Thanksgiving weekend each year in Greensboro at the Koury Convention Center. I often drive over just for the day.
- North Carolina Association for Educational Communications and Technology - typically held in March - this past year in Research Triangle, next year at Concord Mills near Charlotte. Check out their Teaching with Technology grants - three grants of $3000 each awarded for "innovative, student-involved projects which effectively use technology." Recipients are also expected to present a session describing the results at the next year's conference (registration and lodging paid for).
At the national level, there is the annual National Educational Computing Conference that moves around the country. This year's conference was last week in Atlanta. Next year's is in San Antonio. Check out the NECC 2007 podcasting page to listen to selected sessions or the blogging NECC page to read blogs of many different participants.

Poem
For those of you that visited the Montesorri school with us today, there was a request that I put this poem on the blog for a Mother's Day project. If you were not with us, you may still like to have it. :) Author unknown.
I am your little flower, Mom
Please help me grown and bloom.
Take the weeds, but leave the roots
and give me lots of room.
Mom, you are my gardener;
My sunshine and my rain.
Too much will make me wither
With enough, I'll bloom again.
I am your little flower, Mom.
I'm different from the rest;
Don't pick me Mom, just help me grow
To be my very best.
I am your little flower, Mom
Please help me grown and bloom.
Take the weeds, but leave the roots
and give me lots of room.
Mom, you are my gardener;
My sunshine and my rain.
Too much will make me wither
With enough, I'll bloom again.
I am your little flower, Mom.
I'm different from the rest;
Don't pick me Mom, just help me grow
To be my very best.

Grant opportunity links
Another find while messing with United Streaming - the Discovery Education Implementation Blog.
Check out this post entitled Show Me the Grants that has links to sites that offer technology grants to teachers - check the comments too for sources suggested by readers of the post.
I'd also highly recommend as I did in an earlier email that you email Annemarie Timmerman (atimmerm@dpi.state.nc.us) at DPI and ask her to include you on her email list for the North Central Region update for news, opportunities, and reminders of upcoming dates.

Beyond Google Earth
Was looking at United Streaming this morning while getting stuff ready for next week's sessions with first-year students and saw this cool idea that I thought Emily especially would just love. Hope it inspires all of you to look at United Streaming and all it has to offer.

Virtual Manipulatives
Here is the site Professor Richardson demonstrated with virtual manipulatives.
National Library of Virtual ManipulativesShe also asked me to let you all know that the NC Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCCTM) sponsors mini grants. As noted on the NCCTM grant information page:
A total of $15,000 is available each year for the mini-grants, with each region [of the state] awarding approximately $5000 in grants to its members. In recent years, approximately 30-35 proposals have been partially or fully funded, for an average grant of just less than $800.
Great Website
If anyone needs a great reading website, www.starfall.com/ is for you! It has four levels of instruction with the first level for a child who needs help with the ABC's and the sounds. My three-year old loves it.

Updated site
Hi again :) . Please take another look at my site if you get a chance. I have changed the color scheme a bit to reflect my school colors and added some navigation features (thanks to Prof. Taylor!) that make navigating on a page easier. Also reworked a few alignment issues. Feedback welcome!

1 down, 2 to go!
I just wanted to congratulate you guys on getting throught the first week of the semester--but also wanted to send a hug to all the 3rd year students in class that are trying to finish their portfolios by next week. :)
Other resources-reference aids
HI everyone. I am working on my website this weekend, and trying to gather some sites for reference materials, dictionaries, etc. Can anyone make any suggestions or share ones that they use with their students? Thanks again!
